Sample Type: EDTA Plasma

Minimum Volume: 1.0 mL

Tube Type: EDTA lavender top tube

Collection:
  1. Draw sample and gently invert 8-10 times (DO NOT SHAKE!)
  2. Centrifuge sample immediately (≤1300 rcf) for 10 minutes
  3. Aliquot top layer from EDTA lavender top tube and place plasma into a transport tube and dispose of draw tube. Do not ship the draw tube to Cleveland HeartLab.
Storage Instructions: Cleveland HeartLab recommends that samples be stored at 4°C and shipped the same day as draw.  The sample is stable for up to 6 days at 4°C.

Causes for Rejection: Samples will be rejected if there is gross hemolysis or the sample is improperly labeled

Use: Evaluation of an individual’s risk for acute coronary syndrome (heart attack)

Methodology: ELISA

Goal Value: <480 pmol/L

Additional Information: Falsely elevated results may be observed when whole blood is left at room temp for more than 2 hours. Falsely decreased results may be observed when plasma is left at room temp more than 8 hours.
