NMR LipoProfile®

CPT Code: 83704

Order Code: C907

Synonyms:

Sample Type: Serum, plasma

Minimum Volume: 1.0 ml

Tube Type:  NMR LipoProfile® tube (black-top with yellow ring)

Collection:
1.  Draw the sample and gently invert 5 times (DO NOT SHAKE!)
2.  Let the blood clot for 30 minutes
3.  Centrifuge sample at 1300 rcf for 30 minutes

Storage Instructions: Cleveland HeartLab recommends that the sample be stored at 4°C and shipped the same day as draw.  The sample is stable for 10 days at 4°C.

Causes of Rejection:
The sample will be rejected if there is gross hemolysis or if the sample is improperly labeled.

Use: The NMR LipoProfile® can be used to directly measure LDL particle number (LDL-P) and identify insulin resistance/metabolic syndrome.

Methodology: Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy

Goal Value:

LDL-P:  <1000 nmol/L
HDL-P:  >30.5 umol/L

Total Cholesterol:  <200 mg/dL
LDL-C:  <100 mg/dL
HDL-C:  ≥40 mg/dL
Triglycerides:  <150 mg/dL
LP-IR Score:  <45
Small LDL-P:  <527 nmol/L
LDL Size:  >20.8 nm
Large HDL-P:  >4.8 umol/L
HDL Size:  >9.2 nm
Large VLDL-P:  <2.7 nmol/L
VLDL Size:  <46.6 nm
Additional Information: LDL Particle Size (small), Large HDL (low levels), and Large VLDL (high levels) contribute to CHD risk and are important markers of the Metabolic Syndrome and risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus.
