Collection:

  1. Collect and label sample according to standard protocols.
  2. Gently invert tube 5 times immediately after draw. DO NOT SHAKE.
  3. Allow blood to clot 30 minutes.
  4. Centrifuge for 10 minutes.

Patient Preparation: Fasting required. Fasting is defined as no consumption of food or beverage other than water for at least 8 hours before testing.

Special Instructions: Blood must be centrifuged within 30 minutes of collection.

Transport: Store serum at 2°C to 8°C after collection and ship the same day per packaging instructions included with the provided shipping box.

Clinical Significance: The glucose test can be used to identify diabetic and pre-diabetic individuals in a healthy, asymptomatic population, especially those with risk factors, to detect hyper- and hypoglycemia, and to monitor glucose levels in individuals with diabetes.

Limitations: In very rare cases, gammopathy, in particular type IgM (Waldenstrom’s macroglobulinemia), may cause unreliable results.
