Collection:

  1. Draw and gently invert 8 to 10 times.
  2. Label tube with patient information.
  3. Store collection tube refrigerated at 2-8°C until ready to ship.

Patient Prep: Diet, medication, and nutritional supplements may introduce interfering substances. Patients should be encouraged to discontinue nutritional supplements, vitamins, minerals, non-essential over-the-counter medications upon the advice of their physician and avoid shellfish and seafood for 48 to 72 hours.

Transport: Store whole blood at 2-8°C after collection and ship the same day per packaging instructions provided with the Cleveland HeartLab shipping box.

*Mercury is stable for 7 days. Mercury is volatile; concentration may decrease over time. Arsenic and Lead are stable over time if the specimen is collected and stored in the appropriate trace metal free tube.

Causes for Rejection: Specimens other than whole blood; improper labeling; samples not stored properly; samples older than stability limits; clotted specimens
