Collection:

  1. Collect and label sample according to standard protocols.
  2. Gently invert tube 8-10 times immediately after draw. DO NOT SHAKE.
  3. Do not centrifuge.

Special Instructions: A separate EDTA whole blood tube is needed for molecular tests. Collect additional samples for other testing that requires EDTA whole blood.

Clinical Significance: Factor V (Leiden) Mutation is a point mutation that causes resistance of Factor V protein degradation by activated protein C (APC). This mutation is associated with increased risk of venous thrombosis.
