Collection:

  1. Collect and label sample according to standard protocols.
  2. Gently invert tube 10 times immediately after draw. DO NOT SHAKE.
  3. Immediately place tube on ice or place in refrigerator.
  4. Allow blood to clot 30 minutes.
  5. Centrifuge for 10 minutes.
  6. Aliquot serum into labeled transfer tube.

Special Instructions:  Ship samples the same day as draw date. If not shipping the same date as draw date, freeze samples and ship with dry ice. Refrigerate serum immediately after centrifugation.

Transport:  Store serum at 2°C to 8°C after collection and ship the same day per packaging instructions provided with the Cleveland HeartLab shipping box. If not shipping the same day, store serum frozen at -20°C and ship with dry ice.

Stability:

Ambient (15-25°C): Unacceptable
Refrigerated (2-8°C): 72 hours
Frozen (-20°C): 14 days

Causes for Rejection: Moderate to grossly hemolyzed samples; samples received at room temperature; serum from an SST tube; improper labeling; samples not stored properly; samples older than stability limits
